The existential security hypothesis predicts that in the absence of more successful secular institutions, people will be attracted to religion when they are materially insecure. Most assessments, however, employ data sampled at a state-level with focus on world religions. Moreover, examined individuals’ two types deities (moralistic local), thus providing first simultaneous across co-existing traditions. Learning Optimal Commitment to Overcome Insecurity
Game-theoretic algorithms for physical security have made an impressive realworld impact. These algorithms compute an optimal strategy for the defender to commit to in a Stackelberg game, where the attacker observes the defender’s strategy and best-responds. In order to build the game model, though, the payoffs of potential attackers for various outcomes must be estimated; inaccurate estimates ...

One interpretation appeals to life history theory, predicting that individuals with "slow life history" strategies will be more attracted to moralistic traditions as a means to ju...
